The basic purpose of a liberal arts education is to liberate the human being to exercise his or her potential to the fullest for it is the art indispensable for further learning, reading, writing and most importantly thinking.The School of Interdisciplinary and liberal studies at SGVU deplores the conventional training program and strives to create an intensive, wholesome educational regimen that enlarges the student’s capacity of self-knowledge and expands his opportunities for self improvement and self criticism as new global scenarios and professions emerge. The courses that are part of this redefined notion towards liberal studies include B.A.(Hons.) in History, Economics,Philosophy, Political Science and Sociology, B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication, B.A./B.Sc. in Psychology, M.A. in Psychology etc. Teaching essence of sociology , psychology, economics, anthropology, the courses are specifically tailored to add depth and content to the student’s intellect. This interdisciplinary field fosters the virtues of a free mind capable of critical thinking which crosses the conformist frontiers of well-accepted social norms and thoughts, thus creating wellsprings of a free and intellectual society, trained to think and innovate something that cannot be learned from the textbooks.
