"Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)" fellowship is an innovative programme sponsored and managed by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India for the youth of the country to study science and technology at an early age. Thus build the required critical human resource pool for strengthening and expanding the Science & Technology system and R & D base.
It is one of the prestigious and valuable fellowship programs for the students who wish to pursue their career in the field of teaching and research. Going beyond the narrow sphere of conducting competitive exams for the identification of talent, INSPIRE aims to bring a vast change in the field of research and technology by providing financial aids to scholars who have secured first rank at M.Sc. or Integrated MS/ M.Sc. course.
Student of the M.Sc. (Geoinformatics) course of Centre for Climate Change and Water Research (C3WR) Ms. Shatakshi Verma has been awarded the prestigious DST INSPIRE fellowship 2022 for pursuing doctoral degree in India. She is now planning to pursue her PhD from reputed organizations in India like IITs/NITs/Central Universities. She is hard working, sincere and committed with professional approach. She was very regular and sincere during the classes. She carried out her dissertation work in the fourth semester of M.Sc. course at premier Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (ISRO), Dehradun.
She worked on the topic titled “Comparison of polarimetric models for scattering-based characterization of land use and land cover”. This study explores and compares the polarimetric decomposition models for scattering-based characterization of land use and cover using multi frequency space borne synthetic aperture radar sensor datasets.
The scattering parameters of Pauli, Barnes, Cloude, and Raney decomposition modeling approaches are compared for scattering based characterization and mapping various landscape features. She published a research paper in a reputed international journal “Frontiers in Earth Science” with high impact factor (IF: 3.66).
