Name of activity : Educational Visit to Anokhi Museum

Time : 11.30 am to 4 pm

Venue : Anokhi Museum, Amber, Jaipur

No. of students attended : 21

Brief objective of Visit : Excursions and tours play an essential part in the holistic development of SILS students. Such tours provide valuable, interactive life-skill lessons for all ages in the atmosphere of fun.

Activity Incharge : Dr Kalpana Randhawa, Ms. Priyanka Tiwari and Ms. Meenu Yadav

Brief description of event : The SILS students visited Anokhi Museum as their Wednesday Activity on March 6, 2019. Anokhi Museum houses the world’s best block painting garments and is a cultural endeavor of Anokhi clothing brand. This museum exhibits the oldest art form of Rajasthani art at its very best. Detailed explanation about every cloth is mentioned along with the quality of fabric and various other details.

Students learnt about the rich culture of Rajasthan including its history, architecture, cultural beliefs and handicrafts. The tour was a great success. It was a truly enriching, unforgettable and learning experience for all. Students gathered all the information about the AnokhiMuseum, its history and hand block printing.

The creation of the Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing was the initiative of Founder & Director, Rachel Bracken Singh and her husband Pritam Singh. Pritam’s father, John Singh, purchased the dilapidated Chanwar Palkiwonki Haveli mansion in the late 1970s and began a 3 year renovation project in 1989. With the guidance of architects, Nimish Patel & Parul Zaveri, the building was restored to its original grandeur. By demonstrating the feasibility of using indigenous materials, time-honored construction methods and skilled local craftsmen, the preservation project earned a UNESCO award for ‘Cultural Heritage Conservation’ in 2000.

After completion the future use of the haveli was still undetermined. Ultimately, Rachel and Pritam founded a museum dedicated to hand block printing.

The students enjoyed the whole trip with full zeal and enthusiasm.
