Acharya Shri Purushottam Uttam was born on 22 July 1922 in the Royal Brahmin Family known as “Gaywala”. Even as a young man Shri Purushottamji was deeply moved and inspired by the nationalist movement in the country. He renounced the offer of a Jagir tendered by the then State of Jaipur.

Under some Brahmachari Sadhus he learned Hindi, Sanskrit, Gujarati and English. Soon he became a master of these languages. After this informal education he did his ‘Sahitya Ratna’ from Allahabad and obtained a College Degree from Lahore University. In the course of graduate studies he joined the ‘Hindi Andolan” movement, and strived for the promotion of Hindi for more than a decade.

During this period he met Guru Kamalakar who was a famous Brij poet and joined his group that offered free teaching of languages and also advocated the free dissemination of education and knowledge. Apart from this he was appointed as a teacher in a Missionary School. He also toured the whole of Rajputana for promoting Hindi which created a long and lasting impression on the political personalities of State. In the late forties he worked as Vice-Chancellor of Sahitya Sadawart. It was an informal educational institute in which almost all the students belonged to very reputed families.

After the independence of India he joined Socialist Party and held the post of General Secretary of State. But politics and political parties was not his preferred calling. He soon founded a new society by the name of “Sahitya Sadawart Samiti” on 20.11.1959 and started a formal education system. Sahitya Sadawart is now proffering its services to numerous educational institutions and covers the complete spectrum of formal education from Kindergarten to University Degrees. . He is known as ‘Acharya Shree’ amongst his peers and followers.
