Introduction to B.A. (Hons.) in Sociology and Anthropology

B.A. (Hons.) Sociology and Anthropology program enlightens students on topics related to religion, politics, kinship, gender, education, health, migration, landscapes and the media. As a student you will get to investigate various cultural theories and a range of studies of behaviours and beliefs that are used to explore the great diversity of past and present human societies. The study of Sociology and Anthropology will help you to understand your place in the world and will provide useful skills for living and working in a changing, multicultural society. This 3-year program helps you gain a better understanding of human experiences.

The primary objective of this 3-year program at Suresh Gyan Vihar University is to offer an exemplary under-graduate education in Sociology and Anthropology in the context of a Liberal Arts and Sciences environment. The students will be introduced to perspectives for understanding human behaviour and human conditions at levels that range from individuals in society to variability in social and cultural patterns and the organization of larger social structures.

The goal is that students majoring in Sociology and Anthropology become:

  • Aware of the global patterns of variation in the structure of human society and its interaction with the environment.
  • Aware of history of ideas used to explain such patterns and how these shape inquiry and policy.
  • Aware of the variations in dominant social issues around the world.
  • Able to communicate ideas clearly in written, oral and visual communication.

This combined BA degree has been designed for students who are interested in both Sociology and Anthropology. Through this program, students are introduced to substantive areas in both disciplines. The major allows enough choice in electives that students may focus on a broader perspective in social science than is available in either the single Sociology major or the single Anthropology major.
A major in Sociology and Anthropology lays the foundation for career in Social Welfare, Law, Physical and Mental Health, Environmental Problem Solving and Assessment, Urban Planning, Education, Development, Foreign Aid and Agricultural Development.
The student should have secured a minimum of 60% aggregate marks or equivalent grade in 10+2, in any discipline, to be eligible for this program.
