Introduction to B.A. (Hons.) English and Journalism

SGVU’s interdisciplinary major in English and Journalism takes seriously the effective communication that defines the ethos of our University. This effective communication pays attention, first and foremost, to issues of language and representation, both of which are central to the study of literature. Students will navigate through a series of courses on literatures from around the world and across periods of time in order to grasp the formal use of language and ideas. This course then leads you to the various standards of journalism, including different media, newspaper, and magazine journalism as well as business and investigative journalism.

This 3-year program revolves around examining, how the world of language and the media influence our lives at home and internationally. It lets your explore styles and contexts surrounding language and literature and also examines the editorial world of the journalist. This program helps hone your critical-thinking skills with a box full of opportunities for hands-on practical experience.

B.A. (Hons.) English and Journalism program has been framed with a view to quench your thirst for writing and to satiate your hunger for literature. It lets you immerse yourself in classic literature as well as develop journalistic writing skills. You will be taught by research-active staff through seminars and practical workshops, exploring a diverse range of disciplines. Themes covered will include literary history and theory, writing and reporting, fiction, etc.

The student should have secured a minimum of 60% aggregate marks or equivalent grade in 10+2, in any discipline, to be eligible for this program.
