Introduction to B.Sc.(Hons.) Urban Policy and Governance

B.Sc. (Hons.) Urban Policy and Governance is a new initiative being undertaken by Suresh Gyan Vihar University. This program aims to emerge at the cutting edge of policy research in India and create a new class of budding academicians and professionals, whose strong foundation is laid through multi-disciplinary framework.

This 3-year program delivers an academic and vocational education which:

  • Provides students with a coherent understanding of urbanism and the built environment.
  • Enables them to combine a sound theoretical foundation with an awareness of practice.
  • Provides knowledge about the various roles and responsibilities of urban professionals in society.

Students get a unique opportunity to study the complexities of contemporary urbanism and urban change with a particular emphasis on:
  • Developing a critical understanding of urban change and urban challenges.
  • Understanding key processes and debates in the fields of urban design and/or real estate, urban management and planning.
  • Interpreting ‘Urban Sustainability’ as a guide for future planning and policy intervention.

This program has been specifically designed to help graduates manage projects and programs better, as well as, make advice on policy-decisions in various national and international settings. This course has been specifically designed to cater to the needs of those individuals who are interested in:
  • The workings of the government and the delivery of services, including international perspectives.
  • Policy making, implementation and management within public sector organization.
  • The effect of globalization and environmental issues on national government and business.
As a participant of this program, you will be equipped with specialist skills in areas such as political analysis, government strategies, and policy analysis and issues management.

Both public and private sector companies recruit candidates with profound knowledge in public policy and management. This course is relevant to careers in Central Government, Government Agencies, Local Government, Health Services, Welfare Agencies, Charities and in private and voluntary agencies providing public services as well as providing good preparations for careers in business.
The student should have secured a minimum of 60% aggregate marks or equivalent grade in 10+2, in any discipline, to be eligible for this program.
