From securing a mobile phone to helping endangered species survive to analyzing a successful business, mathematics is the key to them all. Almost all areas of human activity or abandoned technologies need mathematics and hence the continuously growing demand for mathematics.

This Mathematics degree will give you a solid grounding in the methods of modern applied mathematics, and bring out the intrinsic beauty of mathematical ideas. You will become an expert in logical thinking and develop refined problem-solving skills that employers in many fields value highly.

This 3-year program helps you gain greater breadth and depth of mathematics skills and techniques relevant to practicing mathematicians. With a good mixture of mathematics and its varying applications, there is an emphasis on statistics, operational research and modeling.

As an SGVU mathematics graduate, you will have valuable transferrable skills that are highly regarded by employers from a range of industries. You will be numerate, have high level of problem solving skills and be able to apply maths to a huge range of situations in industries such as engineering, computing, business, finance, and accounting.

Your study topics will primarily include:
  • Applied Mathematics and Statistics
  • Vector Calculus
  • Differential Equations
  • Fluid Dynamics
  • Algebra
  • Linear Algebra
  • Complex Variable
  • Statistical Inference
  • Bayesian Inference
  • Mathematical Computing
Problem solving is a key element to a successful business and mathematicians are welcomed in industry, business and commerce for their analytical ability and systematic, logical approach to unraveling complex issues.

Here are some routes our graduates can pursue:
  • Statistics
  • Finance
  • Mathematical Modeling
  • Teaching
  • Working in government research agencies
  • Marketing
The student should have secured a minimum of 60% aggregate marks or equivalent grade in 10+2 (PCM/Commerce with maths/Biology with Mathematics), to be eligible for this program.
