SGVU: The Solar Power-Bank
SGVU has been painstakingly treading on the path of making this world greener and a better place to live in. The University intends to come up with a solar park to it, the largest any academic institution has ever witnessed. As on date, the University has a roof-top solar paneling system that has a power generation capacity of 240KW. With this solar park in place, an additional 760 KW of electricity will be produced taking the number to 1 MW. The surplus will be supplied to the neighbouring villages, especially the ones that are still devoid of this basic necessity in modern times.
Hydroponics: The New 'In' at SGVU
Flowing with the tide is what SGVU is all about. This is best substantiated by the University’s upcoming venture of taking up Hydroponic farming, particularly aimed at its School of Agriculture Science & Research students. It is a relatively new method of growing vegetables, crops and foliage plants using mineral nutrient solutions, in water, without soil. Hydroponic farming yields better results as nutrients are dissolved in water and directly fed to roots. Compared to the conventional mode of farming, this method saves farmers from the troubles of weeding, soil borne diseases, spraying pesticides, extensive labor costs, tilling, etc.
SGVU's Mission Space
SGVU is about to skyrocket with its new initiative of building a payload for a satellite that will collect all relevant information concerning weather events unfolding in earth's atmosphere. This new initiative, courtesy the R&D wing of SGVU, will come as a blessing in disguise for all B.Sc. (Hons.) Climate Change Studies students at the University.
